Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has become the first player to receive a red card at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Hennessey was shown a red card as Iran beat Wales 2-0 in Group B at the Ahmed Ali Bin Stadium on Friday. In injury time, Roozbeh Chesmi and Ramin Rezaien scored for Iran and gave the team an important 3 points.
After goalkeeper Hennessy received a red card, Wales was reduced to ten players and Iran took advantage of that. For 87 minutes, the game was going on without a goal. There was a new twist in the game. Hennessy received a red card in the 87th minute after fouling Iran’s Mehdi Taremi outside the penalty box. The referee, who first showed a yellow card, later showed a red card with the help of VAR. After that, Wales sent second-choice goalkeeper Danny Wade in place of Aaron Ramsey.
Wales’ Hennessy also made some good saves before getting red-carded. But when Hennessey became the villain by getting a red card, Wales suffered a loss. Even though Iran created some opportunities to score in the game, they were unable to finish. But he managed to score in the injury time. In the 8th minute of the injury time, Roozbeh Chesmi, a substitute player, scored a goal and gave Iran the lead.
He entered the field in the 78th minute in place of Ahmed Noirolahi. Similarly, two minutes later, Rezain scored a goal and gave Iran a 2-0 victory. This is the first defeat for Wales, who lost to America in the first match. With only 1 point from two games, Wales’ chances of reaching the knockout stage have been weakened by this defeat. Wales will now play the last match against England, while Iran will play against America.
