After Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappe scored record goals, former champions France defeated Poland 3-1 and entered the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2022. Mbappe scored two goals and Giroud scored one goal for France in the match at Al Thumana Stadium. Giroud scored a goal in the first half and Mbappe added two goals in the second half. In the last minute of the game, Robert Lewandowski scored a goal for Poland through a penalty.

Giroud gave France the lead in the 44th minute with a pass from Kylian Mbappe. After that goal, Giroud made the record of scoring 52 goals for France. He surpassed Thierry Henry who scored 51 goals. In the first half, France shot five shots on target, but only one goal was scored. Poland failed to score two target shots. The continuous attack of the French front line was saved by the Polish goalkeeper Vezchi Sezny.

In the 39th minute, Poland missed the opportunity to take the lead. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris saved Peter Zelinski’s shot. In the rebound, the ball was hit by Zelinski and Hernandez cleared it. Mbappe added two goals in the second half for France, who took the lead in the first half thanks to Giroud’s record goal. In the 74th minute, Kylian Mbappe doubled France’s lead. This is his fourth goal in the ongoing World Cup.

Mbappe has set a record by becoming the first player to score 8 goals in the World Cup before turning 24 years old. He further strengthened his form by scoring his second personal goal in injury time. Earlier, by scoring two goals against Denmark in the group stage, he equaled Pele’s record of 7 goals before 24 years.

With 5 goals in the ongoing World Cup, Mbappe is at the top of the list of top scorers. He has also scored 9 goals in the World Cup. Mbappe scored 4 goals in his debut at the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

In the fourth minute of injury time, Poland got a penalty with the help of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), which Lewandowski scored. At first, France’s goalkeeper Hugo Lloris stopped Lewandowski’s shot. However, the referee gave a chance to reshoot the penalty as goalkeeper Loris left the line before the penalty was taken. Lewandowski scored on his second opportunity.

France will now play the winner of the match between England and Senegal in the quarter-finals. This game will be played tonight.
